  • Rear Spar splice plate.

Guys, getting ready to fab up my rear spar splice plates. Would anyone see any reason why I can not make those splice plates out of 1/8th 2024-T3 plate? I have extra and I like the idea of a more stout plate for the splice.

So, any reason I can't go bigger?

Hey Dave, it will just add weight. It will really not add any more strength, The cap strips proved most of the strength. also on the splice the rivets are the weakest point and the a thicker splice plate will jot change that. remember lightening holes have even less material and they are still strong. it should not hurt anything but why add the weight if you have the material.

Sometimes when you think you are making something stronger, you are doing the opposite. I would stick to the plans. Mark
