I love Erics build manuals.... But some of us are challenged one way or another and need stuff spoon fed to us....
in book 1, part 1, page 7...(wing ribs)
it says to counterbore the bolt holes that hold the 2 rib formers together....(so you don't have a bolt head sticking out)
maybe its mentioned somewhere else but the drill bit you need to do this is called a fostner bit....but it's not listed on page 7 or in the tools list at the beginning of the book.
I was thinking we could make the manuals even better by commenting on the chapters
a further example is Barry Buchanan (sonex builder) did a router rib video online that brings to life what Eric was putting on paper, there are many good bearhawk videos on the subject....it's that Barry did a very nice...showing video rather then telling video ...that will get a new builder thinking....I can do that....
Alaska bearhawk did some very important videos that show strength testing...showing that amateur welders can build airplanes...etc...
the problem is not that the info is not out there ...it's that you'll spend a lifetime looking for it...
my sugestion is the creation of threads named after the chapters in his books....not replacing the books...but answering questions and filling in the gaps for new builders....
Tell the new guy to get the manuals....read the threads associated...a knowledge base can be built over time that will help more Bearhawks get completed
if new builders were encouraged to ask questions inside of the forum threads named after the chapters...it would save a lot of time since new builders ask the same questions over and over...plus it would educate a new builders to ask more educated questions...
