  • Group buy of flying wires

Guys, I have done my best to come up with the best deal on flying wires I could find for all the builders of the 4 place BH, Patrol, and LSA. This has taken 6 months more or less to explore the possibilities. I had an American manufacturer promise me (three times) he would be sending me samples of his current production wires for Bob Barrows to inspect. Never saw anything and only got promises that were not kept. I also ordered and paid for a set of wires for my LSA from a foreign manufacturer. His wires are OK and I will use them, but I have come to the conclusion that the flying wires made by Bruntons of Scotland and sold by Steen AeroLab are the best deal both for price and quality.

I have negotiated a slightly better price for everyone than would have been possible if a group of you got together and approached Steen with a group buy. Not a lot better but a little better. And that is with our company making zero $$ - which I am OK with since these wires are so expensive. Also, I would like some help with the task of organizing this group buy. I offer to handle the orders of Patrol & LSA builders, and ask someone else to step up and handle the /ordering/buy for the 4 place BH which I suspect will be the biggest number of orders.

General info: we need to purchase at least five sets of the four wires (of each design) to get the pricing I have negotiated. If there are 13 sets ordered, the price will go down an additional $9-$10 per wire. One half is due upon ordering. Payment in full before shipping. Lead time - around 12 weeks. Below I will give the specs on the wires for each model. We believe the lengths should work for you. If the wires are a little too long you can cut some off. Each wire will have 2 1/8" length of RH thread, and 1 5/8" of LH threads. They can be round or streamlined. Same price. The conventional wisdom is that round is better on the bottom since they have more resistance to damage from rocks. FYI - I have streamline on the bottom of my BH and with over 1,000 hrs they are fine. But I put round on the bottoms of my Patrol. These wires can be ordered as the wire alone or can have the AN665 clevis end in stainless at $37.78 per piece. Eight required. Four RH threads and four LH threads. The AN665's in stainless for the LSA wires are $34.35. Alternately, the AN665's can be bought with zinc plating (or perhaps cadmium plating) for less than $20 each from Spruce and other vendors.

Here is the pricing and specs:

Four place Bearhawk - one set = two wires (1/4"x 28 threads) of 47" & two wires at 41" PRICE: $107.67 per wire. $430.68 for the four wires alone

Patrol - one set = two wires (1/4"x 28 threads) of 48.25" & two wires of 41" Price $107.67 each or $430.68 a set of four

BH LSA - one set = two wires (10/32 threads) of 49" & two wires of 40". These are $106.07 & $100.30 respectively. Price $412.74 for the set of four.

Again - please check your projects to confirm that the above lengths will work OK. They should according to Bob. To place your order - you will need to spec:
    1) which model
    2) Round or streamlined
    3) AN665's in stainless from Bruntons or buy your own somewhere else.

For ordering the Patrol & LSA wires - please contact me at N95MF@hotmail.com. I respectfully request that someone step up and take charge of the four place orders. I am happy to coordinate with Bruntons for ordering everything. Mark Goldberg. Bearhawk Aircraft

After talking with a couple of the Patrol kit builders, it seems like the upper wires should be no longer than the 47" like the upper wires of the 4 place BH. Mark

I'm in for a complete set of round wires for the 4-place with AN665's from Steen, but unfortunately I don't have the time to organize the group buy.

What is the time frame for this order to happen? I would like to get in but I need to know how long I have to scrape the money together. Interested in a set for the 4 place, streamlined on top round on bottom. Thanks.

I was hoping to get the order in by mid week this week. And everyone's deposit should be sent in at the same time. Mark

Hi Guys, I am the foreign manufacturer Mark was talking about and he has our wires on his LSA. We have improved our manufacturing process and now our wires are the same standard as Bruntons.

BearHawk and Patrol have 1/4" wires and the price for 1/4” wires is $130.00 each. You can specify round or streamline wires, the price is the same. AN664-34 fittings in stainless are $33.00.each

Prices for the LSA (10-32) wires are $125.00. Round or streamline, your choice. AN6654-21 fittings in Stainless are $28.00 each.

My wire prices are slightly higher than Bruntons, but there is NO minimum order and lead time is about 6 weeks.

Shipping is included, but if paying by Paypal, add 4%.

I just want to confirm that I do have Russ's wires on my LSA. They are very acceptable quality and I think Russ would take good care of you. Mark
