  • 4-Place quick build - mystery hole in main spar at wing root?

    Hello Bearhawkers,

This might win the prize for today's silliest question, but I'm just doing a final look inside all my wing panels before painting, and saw a hole I hadn't noticed before...

Main spar, inboard end there are two curved structural plates sandwiching the spar. A 3/16" hole is drilled through them at the narrowest part of the plates.
The same hole is present on both my left and right wing, so it's not a mistake.

It seems too big for a rivet (plus the adjacent rivets would have been driven at the factory) - is there anything that's meant to go in this hole?

Thanks again for all the help,

    James

Sounds like a hole for a jig, for lining everything up during manufacture. That's my guess.

Yep, I thought of that as well Rollie.

I checked this during my build some seven years ago, Mark confirmed it was a jig hole.
