I was scanning the web and found a version of the IO-360 lyc for sale at a more reasonable price.
I would like a plain IO-360 parallel valve (ideally --- for the patrol---) or possibly the angle valve at 200 HP and slightly heavier.
The engine in question was a helicopter engine. Some kind of 360. did not say if it was a angle valve or not.
i did a little searching on using one of these on a plane. Some of the super cub guys have done it. They mentioned changing the intake pipes and sump and maybe the carb ( injection to carb---)
Some people thought the camshaft would be the same. some thought the cylinder barrels would be thinner to make the engine weigh less.
Many noted that the HP was 20 more than the airplane version due to a higher RPM ( 2800 vs 2300) in the helicopter installation. and that the engine would likely have been considerably hotter because it was run harder more of the time- and that they commonly had burned up exhaust valve seats. ( perhaps this could be why it was taken out of service ?) I think it had 600 or 800 hrs on it. if it needed new cylinders-- thats +10K$ right off the bat. And then new intake parts and a carb. That could be another 3K or more.
but my question is not so much the cost of doing it (though that may also may make it silly--) but is it feasible from an parts interchangeability perspective ? i think they wanted about 6K$ for it. I have not seen it in person.
