  • Stewards paint and qb primer

Can you use stewards paint over standard qb primer or do I need to prime with stewards product?

I have a friend who didn't follow instructions CAREFULLY with the Stewards System on his Super Cub.
I have a lot of time for Stewards... but....

All the paint started peeling off his wings overnight, in huge sheets like huge pieces of paper.

In his case, the paint was too old (past use-by date), but I guess the less is their water-borne product is more "temperamental" than the nastier MEK-borne paints.

YMMV... not the same question as you have, but I just thought I'd contribute the experience.

Is the Stewards the same as Stewart Systems out of Washington? I expect it's a typo but just making sure.

I've seen some amazing results with Stewart's up close, but it is certainly a very specific procedure with narrow environmental constraints. The ones I've seen were beautifully glossy and pro looking.

When you say "qb primer" are you talking about the fuselage paint on the tubing?

Mark Goldberg sent me a pint of the 2 part paint for the fuselage, but now I worry its life may be limited.

We painted the fuselage with the Stewart Systems Eko Poly Premium a few months ago. It is different but goes on nice and looks great. On the tubes in the top and windshield area, we scuffed the original primer with Scotch Bright and wiped with alcohol and painted over it. Worked fine and no problems with adhesion yet anyway. Being water borne, the paint is much slower to dry than the solvent based paints. This means you cannot sweep up the overspray from the shop floor because it is stuck.

Yes you can, like Ed says, scuff -clean-spray
