Planning a Workshop

Spring time is looking like it might be a good time to build a workshop. I have a deed restriction of 600 sq ft, and that means it's about the same as a 24x24 two car garage.

What's intersteing is the Patrol wing without the wing tips attached to the fuselage without the rudder or FWF will just fit in a 18.5 x 32.5 building = 600 sq ft.

But wait!! If I made it narrower, than 18.5' I could add a cutout for the tail (like a t hanger) and be able to squeeze in the FWF stuff too.

So, question 1) Is a workshop built to house the Patrol a good goal, given my restriction. How much fitting up of the wings to fuselage will be done at home?
Question 2). What are you thoughts on a basement? I believe I could build the shop with a walkout basement and be in compliance.

I believe Tony Bingelis speaks to this in the blue or yellow book, but my cards are a 2-car garage and the lofty dream of having my own little hangar some day. Did you consider a diagonal layout? Obviously the wings will have to come off anyway when you drag her to the airport.

I looked into a diagonal layout, and it did not excite me. 24x24 was not large enough and the cutout to get it down to 600 sq ft was too large for my taste.

With that deed restriction you probably don't have enough room for the runway either, time for a new location!
Problem is, that slows the build...

I'm building in a 19x19 two car garage that I have to share with my wife's car in the winter. Next week I'm going to move to my father-in-law's shop where I'll fit the wings, do a couple things then pull the wings back off. They won't go back on till I move the plane to the airport for final assembly. My opinion is 18.5' is too narrow, it will suck squeezing around the plane every time you go from one side to the other. But then again being able to fit the wings at home would be nice, just don't plan on being about to leave them on long term.
