  • wires vs. struts

The Fairchild has streamline steel tubing struts on the bottom of the horizontal stab (and flat wires on top)
I am wondering if anyone makes smaller streamline tubing that might be interchangeable with a flying wire.... (or home made wire)
I am thinking the streamline tube might be less fragile . I don't think I have seen it small enough maybe...... about 1 inch would be nice......
Just thinking out loud here .....

Carlson has various options in 6061-T6. Not sure how it compares strength-wise to wires, but it's likely to be heavier by a bit.

I haven't heard anyone report about their fly wires and whether they get knicked up. There's steel on the bottom where I imagine most stuff would go flying. So I think it's good there.

Battson seems to be doing the most off-roading these days. How are your wires holding up?

The 4 place uses such as the front bottom horizontal stab support. Specified as 1.012 x .428 x .035. Quick look at Spruce and Wick's catalogs show their current smallest 4130 at 1.180 x .500 x .035.

The Hobby industry has non-structural small streamline tubing made from AL that I think will be suitable for covering the round tail wires. Just slide 1/4" the streamlined tubing over the 1/4" tail wire (Patrol) and secure it with some shrink wrap.
