I get notifications for comments by email just as I do replies. I can also go on the honor system and quote anything at will, just as I did with Jared's post. You find the text, select it and modify the quote.

I don't know, I get both sides of this discussion. But for me personally when I use a non-native interface like Tapatalk I do it for the ease of use (the timeline feature) and accept the risk that I may lose some functionality of the original interface. The best solution would be for Tapatalk to update their functionality, rather than reduce our options to the least common denominator.

I'm with Jonathan, in that comments used as an aside can be helpful. That actually can help continuity rather than disrupt it.

Being able to comment on the orginal post, or directly to another user's comment under that post is pretty standard these days across the internet. (Facebook, Youtube, news articles, Etc.) It is inevitable that this approach will make it's way into forums.

Forums have traditionally used quotes to help provide context. I like both options, and would enjoy having more functionality when using the comment function on this forum. (attachments, etc) Like Chewie said, it sounds like Tapatalk needs to update their app.

I use both Tapatalk and a web browser to access the forum.

I found that tapatalk was miserable at working with the forums I interact with. I no longer use it.

I still think it's a misguided use of a comments feature. Comments sections on photos and videos make sense because there is no discussion forum, generally. But we're IN a discussion forum. Perhaps if the comments feature was relegated to the media that we post it might make sense, but to comment on another person's discussion forum post is traditionally called...a reply. And for the media that's attached and hosted here, there is no comments feature. Eeek.

I think it would have been useful if a particular post could be threaded, spun off, a tangential construct to prevent hijacking and divergence in the conversation, but the comments are just a neutered stripped-down version of the post reply. Useful only for attaching some response that you never want quoted or directly linked, or any media attached to, but tied closely to the post you're addressing.

Due to the educational nature of this thread, I now understand we are not allowed to "like" your comment. Awww...I give up, some rules you have to work around. I "like" the comment!
