  • Guess That Airplane

This last week I flew an airplane from the Texas Bearhawk ranch to Florida. Based of these screen shots of ForeFlight what airplane would you guess it to be?

Possibly cheating a bit (knowing what is going on in Florida), but my guess is the LSA! Must have had some nice tailwinds!

That right! The LSA is here in Florida for the DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase this week. First time I've cruised the LSA that high (9,500') but the tailwinds were attractive. Paige TX to Okahumpka FL, three legs, two fuel stops:

Leg one: 293 SM, 2:22 flight time, 124 mph average GS
Leg two: 379 SM, 2:30 flight time, 152 mph average GS
Leg three: 300 SM, 2:16 flight time, 132 mph average GS
Total: 972 SM, 7:08 flight time, 136 mph average GS

Fuel burn at 9,500' was 5 gph (5.08)
TAS at 9,500' was 115-118 mph

That's SMOKING performance for an LSA. It's a really amazing airplane.

Here's a few shots of the Bearhawk 4-place cruising between 10,000 ft and 13,000 ft with fair tailwinds. Taken during the last winter.

Ground speeds in knots in the top left corner of the screen.
