  • Shock Strut Streamline Cover Twist

Picked up a couple of pieces of plastic streamline tubing to cover the round strut. I see Bob mentions an 8* twist relative to the center line (for asymmetric thrust??). I gather the left is twisted down and the right is twisted up? Both twisted up?
    Thanks

I would suspect it has more to do with the propeller slipstream effect. If so, both would be pointed "into the wind" from the swirling air generated by the propeller...

My old Grumman Traveler with full-castering nose wheel would point about 5-8o to the right during cruise flight, as a result of the rotating air created by the propeller. You can't see it on your own plane, of course, but you could see it when flying formation with another Grumman. I bet the Vans RV nosewheel airplanes do the same...

Thanks Jim. Meant to say force of the air from the prop is what I'm trying to align the fairings with. I know the wind produced is at an angle but it also at a downward slope too. I had my Glastar perfectly centered on the ball until I installed the front gear fairing. I got rid of most of the yaw from angling the fairing to the right towards the prop wash. I still had to put a trim tab on the rudder. My question from looking at the plans (Patrol) page 28 says make left and right strut with an 8* twist. Is the shock shown the left or the right? are both angled down at 8*? Trailing edge up?

Got it. Went to a buddy's and looked at his four place. In my neanderthal thinking, I had imagined the lower shock strut bolt in line with the center line of the fuselage and the twist for the streamline tubing was for the prop wash.
The twist is double on the four place and I could easily see what was depicted on the plans. 8* of downward deflection of the streamline tubing will be centered with the relative air flow, not the prop wash. The strut bolt is actually pointing up at 8*.
