  • Leading edge tape for H-stab??

It is possible to get leading edge tape to fit the BH? Technique??

I already have several nicks through the fabric down to the metal, from stones flicked up at backcountry landing strips.

Wish the leading edge was straight, it would make taping it easier to do. That is a mod I would seriously consider if I were a scratchbuilder.

    A thought.

We recently bought a roll of self adhering plastic stone guard used for trucks to use on the BH's door sills. It may be a good candidate for the leading edge of the horizontal stab. Its purpose is to take stone & sand hits. We bought it from an an auto parts store that sells car paint & body supplies. The roll was roughly 6" x 10 ft (15 cm x 3m). It could be worth experimenting with to see if it could be coaxed to fit with a little help of a hair dryer. If it is stubborn then try a nice uniform pattern of pie cuts along with some heat to help it lay flat.

Dan Schilling picked up a roll of 3M rubber tape from Stoddard's in Anchorage... Installed on his Bearhawk.... I used that tool on my Pacer. Mark M. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

I've been using the 3m book binding tape that Budd recommended to seal seldom-opened inspection covers. It seems to form pretty well around curves and such, and if you were to put a little tension on it, I suspect you might be able to make it work. Obviously the smaller the width of the tape, the more likely your success rate. A 1" width would probably protect everything that you need to protect, and minimize the effect of the curve.

This stuff is very popular in the racing community to protect the leading edges of anything on a race car.
