There was some talk about trying to export those messages into this venue, but I don't remember where we left off with that. Maybe someone with the know-how will reply? I think the hard part is getting the messages extracted out of Yahoo. If we can do that, then we could go about the labor-intensive part of eliminating the off-topic discussion.

I have made some attempts scrape/download the yahoo groups for future use/indexing. The biggest setback is that yahoo throttles the number of posts you can download (not sure if it is per hour or day). I played wit the following tools with limited success (too much of a time commitment):
http://sourceforge.net/projects/grabyahoogroup/ - Did not seem to pull attachments
http://www.personalgroupware.com/index.htm -only used trial, does pull attachments
I have not yet tried this one because it is old and yahoo has changed many times: http://groupfetch.com/index.php
