Quarter Turn Fasteners! Which One?

Researching Quarter Fasteners and seems to be lots of options. Skybolt, Dzus, Southco, probably several more. I've not really looked at the options until now. Wanting to get this sorted out and parts here before starting on the cowl and also need for my baggage hatch. Any guidance is appreciated.

What did you do for quarter turn fasteners?

My advice would be to pick one and use the same ones everywhere. I found mine at B&B, in their tent at the airshows, and ordered more from them by phone when necessary. I used the wing nut type for the cowl but they are more drag than the phillips type. Also, I initially didn't have any in the nose bowl or firewall flange, but later on I realized it needed some there. I have the part numbers on my old building log:

I installed Skybolt flush fasteners on my certified plane and loved them. They have cam adjustments built into the fastener design so you can adjust the cowl to the spinner. They are a pain to adjust, but when you get them dialed in, they stay put. However because they require a phillips screwdriver, ham fisted A&E mechanics will still put foot long scratches in your cowl during annual, so they are best installed on aircraft that are mostly maintained by the owner.

I used Camlocks because I was able to salvage much of what I needed out of a scrap Cessna cowling I dug out of the airport trash bin.

The rest I was able to pick up on E-bay for a good price.

Need a special set of pliers(reasonably priced) and a bit of a pain to get the right lengths unless you use the more expensive adjustable socket.

But once "set up", have been working just fine.

I used Camloc Phillips type fasteners on my cowl doors. Very happy with them. Easy to install and less parts that some.

I just finished building my cowl using the skybolt SK2600-1sw winged head with the sk213-2 adjustable receptacle and the SK2600-LWS retaining ring. I bought the kit that came with the tool for installing the retainers and the nut plate drill jig directly from Skybolt. (the hole spacing is just a little different than a standard k1000 nut plate) The adjustable receptacles add to the price a little bit but they make it super easy when you end up going through different assemblies, like the nose bowl fiberglass and the thicker build up at the firewall flange.

I like the winged heads. No fussing around with a screwdriver that will definitely slip out of the screw and scratch your paint someday.
