  • Award at OSH for Donna and Dennis

I do not see it mentioned on the forum but maybe it has since I have not been paying attention.

At OSH, the grass around Donna and Dennis 's Patrols was dead early in the week. Their new Patrols turned out fantastic. Superb finish out that drew the judges big time. At the awards ceremony, the first award announced was for them. A combination of their beautiful Patrols and the great story of the two building together inspired the judges to create a special award for them. Congratulations for the well deserved award. Mark

I was hoping they would win something. Good write up in the July 20, 2017 issue of GA News, also.

I hope we'll see more of them. They did an air-to-air photo shoot with EAA on Thursday morning, I believe, and received no shortage of attention while there!

      Great job to you both!

Al, I didn't think it was possible, but based on your comments, I think that you might like our planes more than we do!😊

It's the little things that made these Patrols so special. One thing that stood out to me was the tail lights/strobes in the trailing edges of each wing tip instead of on the rudder post. Very cool!

Oh those planes are gorgeous! Chris is so right about the attention to detail. Did you see that wing root to fuselage fairing!! Easy to see that they took their time, to get everything just right. But above all, Donna and Dennis have to be among the nicest folks I've ever spoken with. And what a sense of adventure! Just a short visit has me thinking about expanding my horizons! Still 'in jail' but thinking, none the less...
Whatever award they're bringing home, it's well deserved.

The wing root fairing stood out to me as well, and I thought I would pass along my photos.

The first photo is the sky light installed in accordance with the plans.
The second is a photo the center support of Dennis sky light that I took from the outside facing inside. Instead of Mechanical fasteners, I think Dennis used a 3M adhesive product.
The third photo is the left wing root fairing on Dennis airplane, sky light on the right, with the GPS antenna just left of the fairing. Dennis told me that its pulled tight using the same method that Piper Pacers (I think) use. It hooks over a post on the trailing edge, and is pulled tight from the front using a screw and a nut plate attache to a piece of angle.

There were more details than just this....this attention to excellence continued throughout....doors, windows, etc.

It is a special award created by the judges just for Donna & Dennis. Which they have the discretion to do. Mark

Thank's Mark & everyone for all those wonderful descriptions of our planes! You all know the blood, sweat and tears all of us put into our building and to have all that recognized this way is just awesome. We did not build to have them judged, but thought we would give it a go for the experience of it, and also, they will never look better than they do now. The award given I believe was more to do with the husband/wife "dual aircraft" teamwork build then the planes themselves. Whatever it means we are both extremely proud to have received it. Our experience is not quite over yet. Another 1286 air miles and this adventure is over. D-n-D

Is it just me? I cannot see the pictures Brooks posted. They show up as broken links.
