From Doug Ripley: About 15 years ago I met Greg Connell, an Airshow performer that would later become a great friend. We met at an air show he was performing in, and I was displaying a Murphy moose I helped build. He asked if I would help him build his Bearhawk. He passed away a few years later, before I could get started on his project.
I purchased the quick-build kit from his widow which included an overhauled O-540 and Hartzell 3 blade prop. I think it was a year before I took the wings out of the crate. Months and even years went by with minimal progress.
Two things happened that got me motivated. I found a life partner that loves to fly and I got my seaplane rating. Game on! Welding on float fittings somehow got me going.
First flight was mid December 2022. Performance was better than anticipated.
