  • Collection of Bearhawk 5's at Sun-N-Fun

I know that many of you didn't make it to Sun-N-Fun, but there was a large collection of finished Bearhawk 5's that made it to the show. Between the one in Bearhawk's booth, the one in a combo Stol-It / Bearhawk booth at the STOL field, and the 3 (yes, 3) BH5's right outside the STOL Basecamp on the main road, it was a real treat. There was another one in the homebuilt camp area, but I didn't get pictures - so 6 Bearhawk 5's, not even counting the BH4's, Companions and Patrols, at the show. More are finishing every month, so it's going to be awesome at Oshkosh to see the large number of various Bearhawk models.

Here's some pictures. I'm deep into my build, so I took a ton of pictures of each plane down to the smallest detail, but I'll spare you the 100's of detailed photos.

Big thanks to Elliot and Melanie Abel for the detailed walkthrough of their beautiful BH5. I know they are reluctant to pitch their new cool 3D printed parts, so I'll do that. Check out ground-cue.com. They have developed a way cool Ground Height Advisor that they are just fine tuning. Hoping to target $400-600 versus the $2300 for the Garmin GHA 15. And it has some neat features.

Also, when I chatted with Paul (from Erin and Paul fame) and he found out I was building a camper BH5, he took the time to show me his layout in great detail. Thank you, Paul!

Of all the kit manufacturers, Bearhawk is thriving and growing. Great work, Virgil and Bearhawk team!

I was glad to see so many planes too. I got to see 5 new airplanes for the first time, and it would have been 6 if I could have stuck around for another day. That is a rare treat, even by Oshkosh standards. I also took detailed pictures of the ones I did see, and hope to get those posted in the coming days. Isn't it great to be able to study details on completed planes? These kinds of shows are so valuable for builders and I'm grateful to the owners who bring their planes.

Yes! More pictures! Pictures of completed BH5s are needed for us builders. Love to see the details as I'm trying to figure out how everything goes together!

Looks like the same iron that Stewarts sells. I have one and really like it. The shoe heats evenly and an accurate temp.

+1 on this iron. Used with Oratex to do the final 325 degree smoothing of the fabric.

Here are my pictures for the 5 Bearhawks at Sun-N-Fun. The first picture in the top folder is one of my favorites - 3 Bearhawk 5's in a row.

There's also a folder for the Airworx IO-540-C4B5 engine. Airworx had their very first booth at a fly-in and it so happened that Chris brought a version of the exact engine he has waiting for me. Since I've never seen that version of the IO-540, I took lots of pictures so I can prep my firewall forward prior to it's arrival. It has Superior Millennium cylinders with Lycon 9:1 pistons.

Let me know if the Google Drive link has any issues.
