  • Greetings from North Idaho, Bearhawk #1182

Hello from North Idaho. I'm a (former) missionary kid from Brazil turned airplane enthusiast, pilot, and and stuctures engineer at a Quest Aircraft Company. Looking forward to getting plugged into the community, getting to know you guys, and eventually finishing a 4 place Bearhawk. Hoping to use it for backcountry flying around Idaho, hunting trips, x-country travel, and sightseeing.

Just wanted to say hi and intoduce myself. I've been sitting on a set of plans for the last two years while we finished off some financial essentials (emergency fund, student loans, etc.), and while it's not quite time to start cutting metal I've given myself permission to start dreaming again.

Planning on building from scratch, but we'll see how that goes.

Welcome Brenton, with your structures engineering experience, I'm guessing you'll particularly appreciate some of the BH details. I know I have a renewed appreciation after having a good look at a Bushcaddy under construction at last night's EAA meeting. The builder is sharp and conscientious, I'm sure it will be one of the better Bushcaddys, but I'm leery of the engineering quality compared to Bob's.

Welcome, Brenton. I'm down in McCall, ID at about the same place as you. I was going to do a ME internship at Quest in 2010, but they put there whole internship program on hold for a year. I was sorry I missed out on that opportunity.

The Idaho part of the builder map is filling out nicely...

            Hi Brenton,
Sounds like you had some cool experiences! Quest has always been one of my favorite manufacturers to follow. I interviewed and stopped by to visit once, just before they had 4 rounds of layoffs! Good to hear signs of life up there. How are things going for them?
I'm in northern Oregon; hopefully our paths will cross. Good luck on starting your project! Don't build an airplane, build a rib. Then build another one...
