  • Bearhawks to Idaho

Bob Barrows asked me to post on the forum his schedule for the Bearhawk group trip to Idaho. Bob expects to leave Virginia on June 6, and with good weather arrive in Johnson Creek on June 8. If weather is a little uncooperative, he might arrive June 9. He hopes all you folks with flying Bearhawks, Patrols, or LSA's will join him there. Mark

Man, I would LOVE to go, but the timing is awful for me. It sounds like a fun trip.

Alas, even if I were free to travel then, the Citabria 7ECA (even with it's mighty 100 HP O-200 engine) would not be able to keep up with the Bearhawk clan... Even when Scottie says "Captain, I'm giving you all she's got!" I'm only seeing 95 mph cruise speeds, although I'm burning only 5.6 gph. So even the LSAs with climb props would be leaving me in their dust... LOL (But I do love flying the littlest Citabria - it's a fun plane, just doesn't go anywhere in much of a hurry.)

Hmm, a day late.....maybe. We're headed out of the heat on around June 7,8, going to the Missouri Breaks to Johnson Creek events. On to SEA area for the summer.
Bummer I didn't see this earlier.

Bob Barrows asked me to post this. He would like the Bearhawkerswho are planning to meet up in Idaho to give him a call to coordinate. He is hoping there will be a good group of Bearhawkers to explore Idaho with. 540/473-3661. Mark

The WX cleared and found our way to Cavanaugh Bay and found a Bearhawk ( Bob) and a Patrol ( Ed Meyer ). Bob and Ed took us on an afternoon flight into Sulivan airport on Sullivan lake. By far the shortest strip I've been inti (1700 ft) and only used 1/4 of it, if that. Being the last in line it gave me the thought of a Nick name for Bob and Diana-- Papa Bear and Mama bear. :-). Absolutely beautiful spot. So ya al get back to work. There is plenty of room for lots of Bearhawks, so a future flyin/camp in could happen here.

Yesterday,we flew down to Sandpoint and Ed picked us up and took us to see the Bird museum. Amazing place! Inventors hall of fame type museum. Way worth the time to visit!! (Ed, maybe you can post a link here, I'm not sure how to.). There is a runway at the museum, but closed until the liability issues are set straight. Then Ed drove us to te Quest factory on the airport. Call ahead if you want a tour. They are crankin em out and very busy at the moment, so drop ins are not the thing to do. Thanks again Ed for taking the time to take all of us around to see these things. Another thing I did not mention before, which really impressed me, Ed flew his Patrol into that 1700ft strip and he only has 6 hrs. On it!! Testimony to craft and pilot.:-)

We're in Kalispell, heading to JC tomorrow as long as the wx clears. If the wx is bad South we'll go to Cavanaugh Bay until JC lifts.
                Which way are y'all headed?

Dennis and I are headed home and Bob and Diana are headed to JC, for a visit and then on to Smiley Creek to spend the night. All subject to change due to WX of course and they may just change their minds. Bob mentioned a possible meet up with Mike Creek, but not sure where or when.

Been to Schaffer meadows and spent the night freezing and twilight went on till past 10 PM. Also stopped at spotted Bear just to see if we could spot a bear, we didn't. I'm guessing the only bear you saw were the one you came in. .

Juliet Sierra looks pretty sweet out there, by herself. Great pics! The sky is pristine.

Bob called this morning and said he will be in southern Montana doing some flying with other Bearhawks for a few days. He is at a strip at a ranch/resort. 4U7 is the identifier. If you are around there and want to participate in the fun - head that way. Mark

It's a very nicely done Patrol that has my fav colors-yellow, black & white🙂 and his last name is Meyer. ( I remember this because it's the name of the road I live on.)
