  • Wire labeling

When I wired my wings, I labeled wires by printing out small text, cutting it out and covering it with clear heat shrink tubing. Quite a time consuming process and using an inkjet printer I've heard the print will fade with time. If going this route I now understand a laser printer should be used. A friend told me an easier method was to get a Dymo Rhino label maker that could use printable heat shrink tubing. I bought a 5000 series Rhino label maker and inexpensive heat shrink labels on Amazon. Makes wire labeling way easier. Cost was about $150 for the label maker. Heat shrink size is the flattened width of the tubing, not circumference. I found 1/2" works for RG400 coax. 3/8" works for something like 20ga 3 cond. shielded wire, and 1/4" works all the way down to 24ga single conductor wire. Also makes great vinyl labels, better than my old Brother label maker.
