I know that and they are not expensive, but the shipping cost to my place cost a fortune, they are made of 6061 T6 aluminium, i have a place that have the same streamline size, i just don't
know if the wall thickness is the same.
I believe Bob spec'd out used struts too. I *think* C182 struts cut down a bit. I'll have to research that if you're interested. I still have the cut off ends of mine. I'll measure them next time I'm at the shop.
Alaskabearhawk, i'm standing by for the measurement on yours struts, used Cessna struts are just way to expensive, Zenair use a 5.5 inches streamline 6061 T6 tubing for the spreaders bars
on their 2500 lbs floats, i'm waiting for them to get back to me with the wall thickness, from a photo, they appear to be closed to 0.125, it's $230 for an 8 fts tube and their shop is only 6 hrs away
from me, the cost to get the ones from Bearhawk is about the same but the shipping cost to my place is around a $1000.
For a substitution on such a critical part, I would consult with Bob rather than reverse engineering from measurements you find here. The scope of the forum is more on building than designing, and this is one of those things you really want to get right. Get the details of the profile from the alternative, and contact Bob. He's very good at being frugal and if the struts are up to the jo,b he will be glad to help you save money.
I agree with you but before giving a call to Bob, i will find out if the part have the correct thickness, if it does not, i will have to order the struts from Bearhawk Aircraft and no need to call Bob.
