  • Engine mounts

I am somewhat perplexed by the number of options on engine shock mounts. They seem to be listed by aircraft type, rather than engine type.

Can anyone advise the correct mounts for an IO-540 C4B5 for the 4 place please? Either Lord or Barry mounts.

    Thanks.

A 540 is either Type I or Type II dynafocal. Type I has 1 3/8" I.D. on the attach "ears" on the engine. Type II has 2" I.D. on the attach ears. On a 540 - the attach "ears" are bolted to the engine case and can be swapped I for II or vice versa. If you can determine whether you have Type I or Type II - I can help you with the engine mount rubbers that will work with our engine mounts. Mark

      Thanks Mark.

Can someone tell me what length AN 7 bolts are required, for ordering purposes?

Depending what mount you end up with, maybe I can give you an idea of bolt length. I have type II dynafocal.

Yep - type 2 dynafocal. Probably the Lord mounts. Yikes, they're not cheap are they?!

Could you let me know what length your bolts are please Jono?

Also, what exhaust arrangement have you got?

On Erb's Reference CD there is a drawing for the Lord type 2 540 engine mounts. I used that drawing to make aluminum block to replace the Lord mounts. I finished the engine mounts a few weeks ago and mounted the engine with the Berry equivalent mounts. Everything fit perfectly. Using the blocks allowed me to weld close to the mounts without worrying about over heating anything.
