Any reason to NOT pilot drill all the tabs on the fuselage to #40 (center of tab)...? Seems efficient...

You should wait until you have the tinnermans or nutplates you are going to use to attach the floor. I have used tinnermans and been happy with them for the floor.

Whatever attach hardware you use - the hole might or might not be in the center of the tab. Mark

I validate what Mark saya about Tinnerman's. I used Nut Plates and have a lot more labor into each fastener. I've started using more tinnermans in my build and they seem like a very good way to capture threads and so easy to install.

Two sizes of 6-32 tinnermans (U-nuts) - which ones work best for the tabs we have on the Q/B fuselage?

Which tinnerman? I think the shorter AZ1784-6z1d, aka NAS395-6 will be ideal if your tabs are .050 thick. Tab thickness might prevent these from working for you though.

      Hardware Education and Reference sources:

When we build a Bearhawk we become hardware experts. Those poor souls who build other more popular kits miss out on this education and are left behind in the dust of builder proficiency. When we know intuitively what hardware is available, we can design and create better solutions for our builds where others can't.

So an industry best practice is that builders possess a handy reference filled with AN Hardware drawings. These are available at General Aircraft Hardware (aka GAH) website and from a hard copy of GAH's Toolbox Reference Book (more about the book below.) Don't order any items off the website....use it for hardware research.

On left side of webwage find menu titled "Click Catagory Below" then
      -Captive Fasteners
-click "Tinnerman Nuts" tech info wrench icon to open tinnerman nut pdf engineering drawing.

The short one is AZ1784-6z1d, aka NAS395-6 Max thickness is .051 thick.

      More about GAH.
Like I say, don't place an order from there website.... I always call. 888-247-2738. A real person always answers, usually Kenna or her daughter Karla. They KNOW hardware. I always feel good when the call is done. 50% of the time the prices are in line or better than Spruce. Sometimes I've paid more. A Price check is an industry best practice. 88% of the time items are in stock and sent out that day. 12% of the time something is back ordered and they immediately tell you when it will be in stock.....and that has never been a long delay. I also have an email address for Kenna. klayton@genhardware.com.

The GAH Tool Box Reference Book is free with a $75 order. Ask for it when you place your first order and again when you place your second order. You want one copy in the house and the second in the shop. Its a 1/2" thick book of engineering drawings with specs you need for every fastener AN type aircraft grade fastener known to EAB aircraft builders and industry mechanics. The link below is for an unauthorized 19 year old edition that I have on my computer. A person with questionable morals might find helpful when building. I hope it is ok if I attach it for our group. I think having it gives GAH, Karla and Kenna a few more customers. Beware, If you use the toolbox reference book but order from Spruce you might have to dodge a lightening strike or feel overwhelming guilt.
