  • Aileron balance tubes (again)

Okay, as I make progress on the second quickbuild wing on my Patrol I am thinking about the aileron balance tube weight adjustment (if necessary). Mark G mentioned in another post to just fill the tubes and that will be good. So, that is what I have done and moved on to other parts of the wing. My question(s): After fabric covering and hanging the aileron, how does one make an adjustment to the balance tube weight once it is riveted in and the aileron is covered? I suspect it will be a bit heavier forward of the hinge point, but is there a point where there can be too much weight forward of the hinge point? I suspect forward is better than aft, but really not sure on how and to what effort I should go through to fine tune the mass balance once the aileron is covered and hinged?

Any takers on this? All input appreciated!

    Dave

I filled the long tube prior to covering and left the short on the end until after I covered to get the final adjustment.

Didn't realize (and not sure) there are more than one tube per aileron on my Patrol? I have only a single long tube per...

Dave, you can add the short piece for the end where you insert the long tube. But I doubt you will need it. The long tube filled completely should get you very close.

Okay thanks Mark, should I be looking for some short pieces of tubing in my parts somewhere?
