    Shock strut tube fairing

In my Patrol kit I have two streamlined (plastic of some sort) fairings to put on the shock strut tubes. How and what are some good methods to attach with respect to fasteners or adhesive? Dave (from Maine)

    Fastener choice for firewall tabs

As in the subject line...any "best practice" for attaching firewall to the fuselage tabs? Planning on standard AN3 bolts for now where ever I pick up reinforcing angles which may utilize the tabsfor items on the firewall, but elsewhere? Stainless screws/bolts, monel rivets? Let me hear it! Dave

EFII Fuel Pump Module in a Patrol ---- location??

Curious if anyone has a fuel injected Patrol and the EFII fuel pump module. Trying to figure out where to best place it. My initial thoughts are to locate it on the forward cabin floor, aligned with aircraft longitudinal axis between the pilot's legs/rudder pedals and forward of the fuel...

    Horizontal induction to nose bowl...help!

Mounted my AFP FM-150 fuel servo to the engine to start trying to figure out how to get filtered and bypass air into the servo. There is not a lot of room for a filtered air box that I can imagine. Open to hear all thoughts on how to tackle this. Thanks so much! Dave (from Maine)

    Another tunnel/firewall question

Trying to evaluate the pros and cons of methods for attaching the tunnel to the firewall and lower boot cowl piece and side skins. I cannot envision (practically) having to take of the tunnel except for a major damage event. Maybe the boot cowl extension to access gascolator and associated fuel...

    Boot skin access panels?

Thinking it would be nice to have easier access to brake/rudder pedals, rear of instrument panel, etc. Thoughts and opinion putting a flush fit panel both side of the boot skin. Approximate size and location as depicted with tape lines. Maybe have a NACA vent on the panel as well for...

    FYI...Patrol Brakes

This past summer I had returned the brake cylinders that came with my Q/B kit #79 delivered July of 2023. At the time there was an issue in using Bob's cylinders for multi-brake installation and Virgil offered to swap them out to those of use who had them. The replacements were/are Matco MCMC-4...

Engine mount thru firewall to fuselage

I've seen some with and without a penny washer (AN970) between the engine mount and firewall. I'm inclined to do so. Is there a specific yes/no/depends? Survey says...? Thanks! Dave (from Maine)

Engine cable controls - placement ...a bit longish!

Reaching out to those with experience flying with throttle, prop and mixture controls. My situation is that I would like to place the associated control cables/knobs on a separate small sub-panel. Main panel on the Patrol is at a premium with a 10" Dynon HDX and Garmin GPS175. Therefore I feel...

    Antenna (wing mounting)

Planning on comm antenna to be mounted on top of wing. Suggestions for location and doubler? I was originally thinking of mounting to fairing of wing root to fuselage, but doesn't seem as good a ground plane as the wing itself. Appreciate any discussion and suggestions. Dave (from Maine)

    "Rivet fixing"

For the benefit of some builders who are unaware of this...NAS1097 rivets I had a couple of problem rivets (tough to access and buck single person) that I didn't seat well and required drilling out. After a couple of unsuccessful repeated attempts the rivet hole for a -3 rivet was too large...

Fuel tank strap...the downside of working solo (most times)

While working with fuel tanks yesterday I noticed that one of my fuel tank straps was not bolted in at an attach point. Evidently it has been this way since I took delivery of the factory QB kit. What I find interesting is that I have had the fuel tanks out of this wing more than once over the...

Fuel tank cover issue - Factory Q/B kit

Okay...trying to get my wings ready for paint. Getting some of the last little steps done. The fuel tank bay was final drilled for nutplates holding the tank cover last Fall and I left fuel tank cover panel at #40 pilot holes, supposedly already match drilled. This week, after opening up the...

Lubrication hole for flap torque tube

This is for the bearing (tube) supporting the outboard end of the torque tube. Drill for lubrication or not? Can't recall seeing it drilled in the plans. On some pics I see it drilled. Seems like I can easily lubricate that bearing by simply drizzling LPS or Corrosion-X on either side of the...

    Another baffle query

Trying to make progress on engine baffles. Specifically, inlet baffle left side IO-360 with front prop governor. Figured out the right side inlet pretty much, but the engine casing extends further forward to the pulley and ring gear on the left side. The prop governor adds another consideration...

    Prop governor question..

This is related to forward mounted governor on Lyc YIO-360. Wanted to hear thoughts on setting up cable for my MT prop governor as is depicted in the Showplanes webstore. What I don't know is during setup for cable is how much the control lever arm actually needs to rotate/travel. Is it...

Prop extension for a Patrol Q/B

Another general question for the forum. Do I need to have a prop extension for my Patrol project, or can I get the nose bowl and constant speed prop setup without one? Just starting the process and I cannot figure this out right now. Help! Dave (from Maine)

    A bit puzzled by Baffles

Need a bit of insight from those that may be able to help. I'm in the process of slowly trimming and fitting a Vans baffle kit on my IO-360. Overall, somewhat intuitive with nicely detailed instruction and diagrams. It has become apparent from my work so far and reading on this forum that it...

Another prop governor question...need some help

Alright you Bearhawkers, check my thinking please and help clarify my understanding! Lycoming IO-360, Lycoming tech support has given me the gear ratio and rotation for the prop governor drive based on my engine build/serial number. The governor-to-crankshaft ratio is 0.947:1 in a clockwise...
