  • main spar riveting

my last project was a complete restoration of a 1947 cessna 140. 50% of sheet metal i made new as it was not to my standards due to damage over the years..i did not find the need during that process for a rivet squeezer but bucked many rivets with no problems...i am wondering if this project warrants a rivet squeezer.. also, will a rivet squeezer work on the spars, in particular the main spar cap strips.. from looking at squeezers it seems to me they will not do the trick due to the C shape of the spar..any input would be appreciated. i have the spacer bars to drill into main spars and fit strut attach steel to main spars...these will then be ready for primer and will set aside to layout and drill rear spars..coming along nicely. thanks again. Gary,
I have an old CP351 w/ C yoke, worked great on the spars. This is a larger riveter than most are using. I love the old beast, but now have taken advantage of the Christmas sale w/ additional 10% off for cyber Monday weekend at ATS to order a CP214 size, which I've read is not powerful enough for the 5/32" rivets. Regarding the C spar shape, you need to have the longeron style C yoke.

I used a gun on my spars. I feel like the gun does a better job drawing all of the thick layers of the spar cap together. I like to hear the pitch change when everything gets tight.
