  • Hinge Cover plates for Flaps and Ailerons

Not sure how I missed this, but I just completed assembling the flaps and the ailerons and started going through Eric's build manual and Russ's CD and notice that Russ had made provisions for covering the hinge gaps with covers. I did not make any such preparation...

Don't remember the plans calling any such hinge covers. I guess I can use some kind of nut plate after the fact?

Has anyone made such hinge covers after riveting the skin on the flap and ailerons?

    Thanks
    Hari

I just pop riveted mine in place with all aluminum pop rivets. Easy to drill out later if needed. Eric Newton - Long Beach, MS http://mybearhawk.com

They are held on with sheet metal screws on mine. Works fine and makes for easy removal. -- Bearhawk

        Sheet metal screws.

You only need really small ones - #4 or #6 is heaps. I drilled out the holes in advance, but pre-drilling isn't necessary.

I remove mine for the annual or to adjust the rigging, so screws were a good idea. If after 10 years one or two of the holes wallow out, I simply go up one screw size.

Hari, there are some templates in the Beartracks back issues. I'm glad to send them to you if you need.

Jared, will look through the back issues, will bother you if I don't find it

Look in the first quarter 2006. In any case, it is no bother and I'm glad to see that you are still working hard! We should go for a flight sometime.
