  • Rivet size for door skins

3/32 or 1/8 aluminum protruding head pull rivets for door skins? I would think 3/32 would be strong enough? Thanks

I was pretty sure Bob spec'd 1/8" pop rivets.

I recall Bob specs 1/8" CSK rivets with the understanding the CSK on the door skin will knife edge but it's not an issue because these doors aren't structural.

I thought the same thing about 3/32 protruding head. They were in fact much stronger than the 1/8" CSK when I pulled a test joint apart. So I personally wouldn't have an issue using them instead, and might actually. I would not use 3/32 CSK on these.

I was considering using 3/32 contersunk heads combined with the 3m epoxy glue for a nice smooth finish, but decided to stick with the 1/8 protruding head and stick with the program. I will prep the heck out of skins pre riveting etc to hopefully keep paint from separating around rivets down the road(sky)
