Hello, wondering what everyone is using for the flap pushrod bearing. Is it a piece of 1/4"x.028 4130 tubing installed with oil/grease/anti-seize knowing that it will need re-lubed every annual or something like an oillite bronze? Thanks.

Aircraft Spruce part# 03-17300 1/4x3/16 .032" wall brass seamless tubing is what I'm thinking. $4.90/ft

Hi Mark, I remember seeing that in the catalog. After posting, I had found some oillite bronze sleeve bearings at Mcmaster-carr PNs 9368t98, 9368t101, 9368t102. A few strokes of a file would bring the total height down to what is called out in the prints, if that would even be necessary on assembly. Price is about what a foot of brass tubing would be. My big concern with the brass tubing is how long it would last when compared to bronze and how big of a PITA it will be to service in the future.

Joe, I'd put that question to Bob also while you are on the phone with him. And let us know what he tells you!

I purchase my wing steel parts from Avipro. They used a steel tube as the bearing. I have seen the same used in similar applications in Pipers and Cessnas for parts that do not move that much. I always lubricate every annual and have never had a problem. I would also think the oillite bronze would be good ok.John Snapp (Started build in Denver, CO) Now KAWO -Arlington Washington Bearhawk Patrol - Plans #255 Scratch built wing and Quickbuild Fuselage as of 11/2021. Hi guys, an update. I called Bob earlier today while I was at the shop and he said that steel tubing is plenty good for the application. He said that both of his 4 places (not sure about the others) had a piece of steel tubing installed with regular grease and has never had a problem. He also stated that a harder bronze would also work well for the application. Since I am pretty sure I have the tubing laying around that is what will be going in.Joe
