  • Thread Locking on Fuel Tank Straps

In my first condition inspection I found that one of my tank straps had come loose completely, and a few others had slightly loose bolts. I'd suggest a thread locking compound on those bolts, since there isn't any other locking mechanism in place there.

    Would nord lock washers help?

Thread locker works, 4 years and still tight. Good catch Jared.

Oooooooooooooo..... that could have been "not good" if they all let go. Good find!

For me, 250 hours and none of mine have loosened off, a good dose of rust might be helping to lock them haha! They were very stiff to begin with, too.

Seriously about the corrosion though, I found that water gets into the tank bay when I fly in the rain. I put an RTV gasket on the LE of the tank cover, and that seems to have stemmed the tide.

I think Mark G. issued a warning about this in the last year sometime.

Leave it to Mark G to be on top of things! I must have missed that one.

Maybe drilling the heads for some safety wire? I haven't gotten that far so I have no idea how little room there is to work with there. Nice catch... at least the parts were close by and you didn't have to fish them out of the wings.
