Portable generators. 5-8 kw

Need new generator for my BH shop. Generac repairman told me to stay away from the new ones, Honda too expensive. Any recommendations?

I've seen Onan generators on CL sometimes out of an RV for reasonable money.

I'm trying to think of the generator I got for work last summer. Spec'd it with 8hr run time, 7kW and a 4 year warranty. Tried to find a diesel but they were all Chinese and we weren't willing to risk it. If I can find the paperwork I'll let you know; it performed great with zero issues being ran all day every day during the summer.

Find an air cooled Farryman diesel. 6kW. Geraman engine. Italian generator end. I had one set up on a Trace Xantrex 48 volt 5500 watt inverter system. Auto start...has about 350 hours in it... Using 0-30wt synthetic oil... It's now in the hanger...will be back up for it when I get to it.... Found a second one on eBay.... It's the initial power supply for the administration building at the mine... No hour meter...they've run the piss out of it..

I bought a Honda eu3000IS a few year back, and it is awesome. The local Honda shop had them on sale, and it was still expensive.

I bought a 250 amp Thermal Arc welder that runs on propane. Has a Honda motor, 120/240 single phase and 240 three phase taps. Plus it is a great stick welder and I have a wire feeder for it. Starts in cold weather and the fuel does not age. It was used, but only 3hrs on it when i bought in in 2003 for 2k.
