PSA: Possible PC680 battery alternative

While reading on another forum I came across these ExpertPower EXP 12180 batteries. Reviews from other pilots were good. They seem to be available under various brand names but this one is on Amazon for $39.99. I thought for that price I'll try one and if doesn't work I can use it in my boat to power the fish finder and other accessories. I'm satisfied with how it fits in the ACS PC680 battery box. It is 3.5lbs lighter and has more 2AHs than the 680. I recall it having a 220CCA rating but I can't find the reference so make sure you check that yourself. Also, After ordering mine I came across the EXP12200 which has the same dimensions, a 20AH rating, threaded terminals and costs $40 on Amazon. I'll have two batteries on my plane so when I order my second battery it will be the EXP12200

Can they be any good / safe for that kind of money?? Or are they making the saving by using old-school lead-acid instead of gel?
These days $39 doesn't buy much....

I agree but because several guys recommended them, including one mechanic that maintains several airplane using them, I thought it was worth a try. They are sealed AGM deep cycle batteries like the PC680. I can't imagine they will last years like some say the 680 will but for $40 replacing one a year is easy so they only need to last 2 years.

Small batteries for motorcycles etc are stupid cheap oversseas. Or I should say we get ripped off in the states. 100-200 plus dollars for a batter 1/6 the size of a car battery - ugh. I believe my last battery I purchased for my 150cc motorbike was less than 12 dollars. Probably somebody is sourcing small batteries overseas, and selling them on Amazon.

I am not sure I would put one on an airplane. Batteries are built for different purposes. Some are made for extreme use, others, not so much.
