  • Bearhawk landing gear

I heard a rumor that a snap came loose on a bearhawk landing gear. I think it happened at a backcountry airstrip in idaho, kinda worries me. Has anyone on the forum heard of any problems with this.

Was this recently, or several years ago? The one that happened several years ago was a different type of design.

If I recall.....over 10 years...could of been 20. Might of been a prototype. A redesign of the issue fixed it.

It was in fact several years. My plans for the lsa are about 10 years old.. The plans called for a machined grove for the snap ring, which I did and just assembled . . It fits good and tight. A failure would cause severe damage . is the reason I'm asking. Are all the Bearhawk models Held together with a snap ring. Thanks

The one in that case was not conforming to any plans that were ever issued as I understand it. The top of the shock strut was a threaded aluminum piece with no snap ring and the threads failed.

Buy the snap rings from Bob, they are not the same as the ones you find at the hardware store.
