Left wing wires are all plugged into the D-Subs, only took half the time as the right wing.
Finished up the ground and power to my start key switch
Laid out the wire routing for the EMS wires

I decided it would be dangerous to start cutting wires and connecting/splicing wires before I had a solid plan for how the wires would be routed so as to have known wire lengths to deal with. So today I put fasteners on the firewall, mocked up standoffs for the engine mount and ran the wires through sleeves to make everything very clean.

Here is a photo of how my mentor made a standoff using high temp zip ties and a cut piece of hose

I will use this method to make standoffs from the engine mount, here are my temporary attach points to get create my wire routing.

Here are photos of the routing and sleeves I am using to keep thing clean looking.

The above (last photo) will have the red/white/black wires spliced to the yellow/black/red wires and the sleeve will be slid to the left through the zip tie location. All zip ties will be high temp zip ties, the ones you see are GripTies that are easily removable.

I am trying to be as creative as possible to make things as clean looking as possible.

It was a general get stuff done day today.

Believe it or not, I am a terrible procrastinator, and today was the day I finally torqued the engine mounts to 37 ft.lbs. Not an easy job as it is a tight fit on the bottom two.

Today was alternator day, to begin with I re-did the safety wire on the mount as it was a bit shoddy

I wired and connected as much as possible on the Voltage Regulator prior to mounting it on the firewall

Mounted the regulator on the firewall and attached all wires both to and from, field from the alternator, field to my D-Sub, both ground to the ground buss and the 2amp inline fuse in the wire to the main power buss

Mounted and wired both positive and negative to the behind the panel USB plug which will power both my in cockpit GoPro and the Mini iPad on the panel. Mini iPad mount also has a fan.

Jay,
I have an unsolicited comment. I see that your inline fuse to regulator terminal 3 is right next to the regulator. It is unclear how far away you are picking up power to go to the fuse, but only the last section of wire between the fuse and terminal 3 are protected by the fuse. All the wire on the upstream side of the fuse is unprotected. The fuse should be located physically close to the source of the power to limit the amount of unprotected wire.

Thanks David, I will look at that tomorrow. I do want the fuse on the cabin side of the firewall, so not a lot of wiggle room.

I would gently suggest that David is correct. The fuse is almost useless where it is and will function just fine in the engine bay. It should be as close to the supply of energy as it can reasonably be.

I have found that in building my plane some days I am the bug, and some days I am the windshield. Today I was the freaking windshield. It was a GREAT DAY! I am getting very close to being ready to build my engine cowl.

One thing I had not noted from a few days ago, I was going to jump the gun a bit and fire up my panel, and while torquing the nut on my ACM’s negative panel to 24 in.lbs. The stud sheared off. There were some choice words, but bottom line I had to ship it back to Dynon/Advanced Flight Systems to be repaired. I hope to have it back by next Thursday.

Fuselage is nearly done, with I get my ACM back I will re-hook it up and secure all the wiring.

I had planned to do the windshield next, but I actually got hanger space, so my buddy is going to move his CC to my hanger space so I can build wings. It will be beneficial to be able to do the windshield with the wings on.

I need to make wing cradles, anyone have any tips?

Are your wings pre-drilled to the fuselage? If so use a drywall jack centered under the wing to lift them into place. You will need a helper at each end to adjust position. We used foam blocks to support the weight at wing ribs. Was so much easier than when I made cradles to support them for drilling.

rodsmith mine were the last to not be pre-drilled, so I have to fit them to the fuselage. We have a great builders community at KHCR, so I will have the help I need

Utah-Jay Your progress is amazing, I wish I was this far along on my build. I like to check in on your posts to see how far you have gotten. I recently finished a Dynon install in my Piper Comanche and noticed your oil pressure sensor looks to be directly mounted to the engine. I can't tell for sure from the pictures. In the dynon manual they recommend to not install into the engine oil pressure port due to vibration. I mounted mine to the engine mount with Adel clamps and had a short hose made. Keep up the good work, Chris

Yes, that is the 5th time I have redone/redesigned the bracket. But it now works perfectly, no flex.

Mounted the prop spacer and set the nosebowl (for sh!ts and giggles) with 3/8” space.

Last two photos are to give an idea of the size/height of the Companion on ABW 26’s. My buddies CC is on 29’s and his spinner hits me right on the tip of my nose, my spinner is right at the bill of my cap

Nose bowl will be back off soon as I need to fill blemishes and sand the nose bowl before I apply filler and then sand again.

My ACM arrives tomorrow, hope to light up my panel Monday
