Ok, I plugged it. I installed the Anti-Splat kit for the breather tube that empties into the exhaust to burn off any oil that comes from the breather tube

I also got my HDX screen/system all set. Configured for MPH, SM etc… The photo is from earlier in the day before I adjusted/edited the EMS bottom info, but here is a pic anyway

Tomorrow I start sanding the nose bowl, the using superfill for a few imperfections.

Being I have my panel up and running I seem to like to fiddle with it. Well Saturday I decided to check my radio. DAMN GOOD THING TOO! From inside the hanger I could hear traffic really well. The RX would light up on my Dynon radio when I was receiving, but no joy when I tried to transmit. Nothing on the screen, and no green light when I depressed the PTT button.

It seems it is the only thing currently checkable that is not working.

Thoughts?

Just a small thought Jay, try using the opposite side PPT to transmit in case they're the wrong way around. Happened on mine and was an easy fix.

I don't know if you are using Dynon's intercom or directly keying the radio but I would start by checking that the PTT switch is connected to the correct pins on the harness/connector. A brief look at the online docs seems to indicate that it would be pins 10 and 2.

PTT gremlin was found and eliminated, it was a ground issue in the wiring. Both stick PTT were perfectly with a positive confirmation as “loud and clear” from inside the hanger.

Also installed the over-pressure “T” for the Anti-Splat breather system.

I has a single piece of wire at a splice contacting the “positive” when created full circle all the time. It was a dumb/careless mistake. Likely end of day and trying to finish up kind of thing.

So it was a day to UN-F^ck some things.
1) had to remove the fuel selector, gascolator and fuel lines so I could re-clock the 45° AN fitting for my fuel line attachment
2) day two of messing with trim tabs to get them right, of course the left trim tube that bolts into the horn was not in the bolt hole, so had to UNDO that and then get it lined up and re-bolted
3) my elevator trim horn was just barely rubbing on the left longeron, so had to file a bit off. This was very time consuming doing it without disassembling which would have taken MORE time most likely. I kept filing and testing for contact. Eventually I got it so it did not cut or leave any mark when I put a piece of paper between the longeron and horn.

I also had to bend my bar that attaches to the trim tab arm to clear the elevator/horizontal in the full up elevator position. Used a tube bender to get the job done


I also gave my fuel caps the New Zealand treatment

Knipex pliers are a must have for this type of thing as they squeeze in a straight line

Flying wires are on and tail is set. Both H-Stabs are within 0.1° of the datum point on the fuselage. I’ll call that good

Looks great. Interesting difference in horiz stab fuselage strut attachment location between Companion and 4-place. I like the dumbell!

Could not work on the nose bowl today, the superfill did not dry overnight as it was too cold in the hanger, so….

I had to get the ELT working, it took:

2 trips to Walgreens
2 trips to ACE
2 phone calls

Who would have known the system needed two different odd sized batteries to make the system work. But the remote horn and panel remote are all working now.

Just a note on your safety wire. You may want to check the wire on the brake pad bolts. It looks like a couple of them are pulling the wrong direction and would tend to loosen the bolts rather than keep them tight.

I had to re-wire the battery volt sensor

Worked a bunch on the boot cowl, set the windshield for the first time, made a plan to create access via the glare shield to the avionics

Just a note on your NACA vents. When you wash the plane or leave it parked in the rain, be sure to blow the water out from the inside. Otherwise when you first open the vents inflight you get hosed from the pool of water that collects inside the tube ! Learnt this the hard way

I found out long ago when building an airplane …. Some days you are the Bug, some days you are the windshield

I decided two days ago to build a removable top to my glare shield as an “afterthought” so I will have easy access to my avionics should/when I need it down the road…

So I worked all day to make that front part of the boot cowl/glare shield that the front of the removable portion attached to. The first one was a bit too shallow, so after the first one was 90% done, I started over on a new piece of sheet metal. Got it freaking PERFECT!!! Must have fitted it 15 times to make little adjustments….. cleco’ed in place at least 5 times. It is PERFECT!!!! Cleco everything in place, put the windshield up there to check for fit and space to final fit the actual removable cover tomorrow…… BOOM…. I was fitting it from the rear, needs to be fitted from the front so there are no spaces where it slides on in front of the windshield to the firewall. To be honest, I just kinda laughed and cleaned up my mess. Oh well, a day wasted for the most part. I did get some other stuff done though
