  • Greetings from Michigan

    Hello all,

My increasing interest in the Bearhawk has intensified as we are expecting our baby boy in June and we'd like to be able to take some regional family trips without leaving our 65lb Husky, Mav, at home. The capability per dollar in the Bearhawk lineup seems to stand alone in the market for anybody not scared of a tailwheel.

My background is in aviation maintenance and commercial flying.

Very excited to get to know you all and cheer on your builds & adventures until our family can afford to start on our own project.

Hope you're having a great weekend!

While it has been known that the first years of baby's life leave virtually no free time to the parents (to build a plane), there have been known examples that defy that stereotype.

There is a YouTube channel with a guy named Austin Manke. He and his wife have been building an RV10 for some years now, and documenting it online, starting as a couple, building through the pregnancy, and now building with the little one strapped to his back (or front), and they seem to be making steady progress. One of the videos, made by his wife, shows her surprising him with the news of the pregnancy, commenting (in voice-over), "good thing we're building a four-seat"...

In other words, while you're facing a period with very precious little free time to build a plane, with a lot of effort and good planning, it can evidently be done.

Thanks, Travis! We are currently in the Kalamazoo area. There's a decent chance we'll be relocating within the southwest Michigan region soon, but we like the general area and my dear wife is keen on maintaining the relationships we've made here.

This is inspiring! I keep threatening that I'll put the boy in a propeller beanie while she's still unable to get out of the hospital bed...a threat typically met with a roll of the eyes or the ever-dangerous dagger stare. We won't be ready to build for a few years yet, but my experience is that there's no reason not to set ourselves up for success by doing as much planning and research as possible in the meantime. As I used to be an avionics installer, I've already sketched out my avionics interfaces and electrical system. It's hiding somewhere in my toolbox at work.

For the dog lovers lurking about, have attached a photo of the beast we want to take along on our family trips

Welcome! Family first, but there is always time in the day (or week) to make a part or dream a bit.
