  • Wing Strut/Boot Cowl Steps

Has anyone out there figured out some kind of step pads or accommodations to be able to climb up and service/check the wing tanks (similar to a Cessna) without a ladder?

I saw a picture of an experimental Cub-type airplane that had steps (similar to the boarding steps for the Bearhawk line) added to the front of the landing gear leg. But I figure I'm going to need a small, lightweight 2- or 3-step aluminum ladder (<10 lbs) to keep in the plane for refueling, removing snow/ice from the top of the wings, washing the plane, etc. Several available on Amazon.

Something along the lines of the Trimmer Pacer gear STC?

Yes, that is one style I've seen. The other style actually stuck out forward of the gear, similar to the step on the Bearhawk line, but reversed. I don't know for sure, but it seems like the 2nd version would be easier to use with big tires.
