Well, im making great progress. About 4 months to the day since I cut out my first nose rib. I just set my last rivet on main spar..All spars are completed, as well as all ribs and stiffener angles throigh the alumiprep, alodine, and epoxy primer proces. I expect to drill and attach all stiffener angles to nose and center ribs this week, and then to the wing steel favrication and welding begins. My next learning curve! This will be new territory to me and prepare me for what to expect with fuselage build. My question now is, do you guys spray another coat on spars and ribs after riveting assemblies together th coat the rivets? As I mentioned earlier in this post, everything has been epoxy primed before assembly. Thanks again, Gary

I've heard tales of folks dipping rivets in primer before inserting and driving them. I don't know if that will offer any benefits other than additional mess. But that would certainly get it in the last uncovered spots. Otherwise, maybe just dabbing the rivet heads with primer and a q-tip/brush afterward?Christopher Owens

Every where I ever worked in aerospace, each solid rivet shank and the hole bore were primed unless they were icebox rivets. It is a little messy. When the rivet is shot, the primer splatters. Plus it drips all over the place. The crib used to give out little bottles of primer and long handled Q Tips. Also the rivet heads and bucktails were dabbed with primer after install. But remember this is for structures that operate in extreme conditions. This is how my structure is going together. But I like the mess and am in no hurry. Plus I plan on a float install. I don't think an overall second coat of primer will buy you much except it will make it look really pretty. I just wish I could work as fast as you do.
