Propeller not cycling

      Looks like I need part number 76529..1 3/4 OD plug. Installs from the front...trick will be removing old plug I believe.

        So....after a lot of homework....thank you all for the threads...I got the rear plug replaced. . Wasn't sure how to proceed to remove the existing plug. A huge thanks to Bob Barrows. A combination of his input and a wee bit of ingenuity on my part, I got it popped out and by the cross tube...new rear plug installed after fabricating a setting tool. Will get prop back on tomorrow and see how things work from here. May be Sunday before I run yest due to rain. Again, thanks everyone for all your input. I expect a potential catastrophe has been resolved. Will post results

          SUCCESS! PASSED the 40 psi air test. Fired it up...took a wee bit but prop cycling great now ..very happy. Now to adjust fine pitch stop.Always something to learn!

            Another interesting prop not cycling problem. The first time I started it, I tried cycling it and it felt like it was cycling - 1500 rpm. Didn't run it much. I just ran it hard on the ground with a cooling shroud, which worked great. I ran 6 10-12 minute cycles hard, then let it cool down. I was also tuning the EFI with an O2 sensor. The governor seems to control the pitch to low pitch/high rpm, but trying to reduce rpm has no affect. Also cycling it has no effect. I was looking to take it apart and clean it, but looking thru documentation, I have the wrong governor. I didn't order the governor by part #, but by "Characteristics". 540 narrow deck, PIP, non-aerobatic. My serial number matches the first two, but has an extra L in it that denotes aerobatic. I will contact the manufacturer to arrange getting the correct governor hopefully Monday,

            Not sure how I got the wrong governor. It could have been my mistake ordering online, the dealer, or the manufacterer. We will see.

            But a little research says the governor should still cycle the prop, which it does not.

              John - just in case it helps, I initially experienced a similar issue. What I've since learned is that they apparently don't make governors for a narrow deck engine anymore. The narrow decks supply a slightly lower oil pressure. Therefore my prop would only ever cycle during run up at 2000 RPM or higher, whereas most props will cycle at 1800 RPM. The other symptom is that after takeoff, to reduce the RPM from 2700 to 2500 would typically take 10 winds on the prop knob (instead of about 3). Hartzell advised me that there were no issues or risks otherwise with running it like that, so I did about 300 hours before addressing the issue.

              Recently I sent the governor to a prop shop and they made an adjustment inside, and it now performs just like all other small aircraft.

                I found this out late Friday so too late to contact the dealer. A bit of searching says the aerobatic governor should still work, it puts out higher flow. Perhaps they are spec-ing and aerobatic governor for this reason on a narrow deck engine. Hopefully I will find out Monday.

                Time to fly this thing.
