  • Vertical Induction Air Box

I've seen how some have used the RV FAB kit, and seen how others have opted for horizontal induction. Both seem like worthy but very time and labor intensive projects. I would like to find a solution using the standard Bearhawk box on a vertical intake with minimal fabrication. Has anybody done this? I think I will try to call Bob to see if he has a simple way to get this job done as well - but I'd love to know y'all's thoughts.
    Thanks!

If I were in the position to do it again, i'd still lean towards the FAB. I think all of the methods require some fabrication, but the FAB delivered a more durable end product.

I bought a FAB, and like the few other things I bought from Vans, it is well sorted out. Used as intended, I like how it seals the lower cowl from external ram air. Too much ram air would, to my mind, decrease the delta P between the upper and lower cowl area.

I don't have what you ask for......someone who has "done this". But I hope to help the discussion along.

Clarify what you mean by "Standard Bearhawk Box.?" Are you asking about a typical "Carb Heat Box" style of air induction?

I've discussed Bob's Patrol intake with him at OSH in 2018. If I recall, He built his own intake box using minimal air filtration. I think his intake has less frontal area than some I see and therefore seems less drag to me.

An option from Spruce, This filter is raised above the bottom of the box, rather than below it.

If My imagination runs wild sometimes it usually does not turn out very well......A cobra head....could I use this and position an air intake in the nose bowl somehow?

Thanks Brooks - I guess the carb heat style is what I’m thinking. Maybe that’s not a great idea for a fuel injected engine.

I don't know why it would not be a good idea? The carb heat opening would be your alternate air intake, with a door and a lever to be actuated from an alternate air control cable.

Hmm - I'll have to see if the spruce box will fit.

I think it’s worth talking to Mark G about this subject. I just bought an Usher box from Spruce, I had to get it repaired before I fitted it.

Thanks - that looks like a good option.
