  • Christmas party at kit factory

Yesterday we returned from a trip to the kit factory. This post is a little cultural type description not really about the kits. There will be a second post about what was accomplished on this trip concerning changes to the kits.

The 12th of December is Dia de la Virgen de Guadalupe or the day of the Virgen of Guadalupe - the patron saint of Mexico's Catholics. We always have a Priest come to the factory for a ceremony to bless the factory. We host all the workers and their families. Children, inlaws, cousins, parents - etc. This year we had visitors that were workers in the past. Even a couple of the local police who make swings by the factory a couple times a day. We feed everyone and give the workers a big box of food items for them & their families.

This year we had the same Priest as two years ago. My favorite. His passion is helping the youth that have gotten into problems / gangs to reform and give up their bad ways. He gave a long talk which I should have recorded and translated for you guys. The Priest talked about how we are all human beings and no one is more important than anyone else. That we should live our lives respectful of all other humans. General, lovely comments on how we all ought to live our lives with consideration for others. In the picture you see the bulk of the workers and their families with the non Catholics (maybe 1/3 of the workers) kind of hanging out in the back. I am usually back there with them. I was kind of in the middle with my wife this year.

His comments to the workers about their work always blow me away because it is like he taking the words from my mouth. He tells them to be careful every minute they are making airplane parts. That the families who will be flying in the planes are at risk if they do not do their jobs well. That their jobs are different than most employment situations since inattention can put human lives at risk. The Priest used words that I thought were a little strong this year. He said that they could be converted from normal, good people into assassins if their work is not done right. The worker next to me (an Evangelical) whispered to me: "Did he come here to bless us or scold us?".

He concluded by walking around and throwing Holy Water on all the equipment and the workers, blessing everything and everyone as he passed. I even managed to get spritzed where I was standing as he passed. But of course Holy Water doesn't make normal rust on the tooling - just Holy Rust on the equipment and tooling.

We have a really great team down there, and I thought you might enjoy the story of the party. Mark

This is so great Mark. Thank you! I am just finishing a week over in Valle de Bravo that spanned the holiday and folks there went big with fireworks, carnival rides, and street parties.

That's great, Mark! You seem to treat your workers well!
Question: When you visit the factory, how do you travel? Do you fly one of your Bearhawk's down there?
      Merry Christmas!

I used to. Me and Bob have gone together 4 or 5 times in my 4 place BH. Back in the first few years I went back in forth in a Turbo Aztec I owned.. But flying commercial is my preference now as I arrive able to work and not so tired from the long flight. And no weather to worry about. Crossing the Gulf Coast flat area across the big mountains always has cloud build ups from Gulf moisture. Crossing the Oriental range requires climbing to 11,000 ft or so. Relaxing not having to fight that every trip. Also cheaper for an airline ticket than avgas. Mark

Hey Mark, Thanks for sharing this with us. Your guys do a great job and produce some really quality parts, I am still just blown away at the quality of the welds on the fuse I bought from you. Thanks for all you do to support us builders.

Thanks for sharing Mark. When my instrument panel is done, I will take a picture of one of the little brass plaques with the kit number and Made in Mexico in the middle of the instrument panel, where it will be permanently mounted.
