  • Kydex Sourcing

I'm going to be updating some interior panels and am thinking about jumping on the Kydex bandwagon. For those who already have, were you able to find .028 in any colors other than black or white? And were you able to find any suppliers who would ship it rolled? I've only seen black and white in the thin variety so far. The closest "local" supplier I've found so far is 3.5 hours driving each way, though flying may also be an option. Shipping would be cheaper than both driving and flying. As of now the best option is to get white sheets from them and paint the sheets, but if I could get a factory color I think it would wear better.

Perhaps ask around and see if it can be painted Jared. It doesn't glue with most glues. I did find that the glue used on plastic plumbing pipes works very well on Kydex. Mine came from Interstate Plastics. I found .028 to be suitable for my needs. Can't help with the colors sorry.

Jared you might want to try Amazon. Their shipping is so cheap compared to any other vendor. I bought a 4x4 piece of polycarbonate for 1/4 of what I could get it locally, and that 1/4 included shipping. I have seen Kydex advertised there as well.

        Hey Jared…

I called CAC Plastics in Wasilla. They always have been super-helpful. They only have white, but they said just wipe it down with alcohol, spray with polyurethane and it will stick like glue. It does come in a variety of colors but to get a color they have to order a complete unit of 114 sheets. They said the .028 doesn’t sell much because it is so thin. It’s not for certified aircraft but no problem for EAB. http://cacalaska.com/products/

The kydex interior panels in my Patrol project are painted. This obviously adds some weight, but it does seem to be a viable option.

              Jared,
Interstate Plastics was the source I used way back. They are still there but shipping to a personal address seems to make it cost prohibitive now. If you have business address option that would be better. I was able to use 24" x 48" for everything. That would help. Might try a phone call instead of a website order?

They did have other colors than black. Who knows these days?

Kydex is a Acrylic PVC and can be glued with PVC cement. There is a manufactures bulletin with information on painting and recommended products available here: https://kydex.com/wp-content/uploads...YDEX_Sheet.pdf

Jared, you might try finding a manufacturer of pistol holsters (or other user) in Kydex in your area and inquire on their source.
