Odd question. Painters Tape

I been cutting the windows from Acrylic and some of the protective covering has come off. While working on it I covered it in the blue painters tape. Has anyone done this and left it on till you were ready to finish everything? Did it leave residue or making it hard to get off being on for a year or so?

Depending on the temperature and humidity and all, I could see it becoming a problem. The cure may be worse than the illness so to speak.

I had some 3M blue stuff on my windshield for well over a year, maybe two. No problem but that is just one example.

I used this 3M product on my windshield long-term with good results. Came off without any fuss after a couple of years.
