  • US Kydex source

I really like the idea of using Kydex for my interior panels. Most of the larger Kydex panels are black, but I really want to use a lighter color. Most sources are also sell only small panels used in making holsters. Does anyone have a good US source for the larger non-black panels that they would recommend?

    Thanks!

We have a great resource here in AK, CAC Plastics, that has an assortment of large Kydex sheets in various colors and thicknesses. There might be a similar store in WA:

CAC Plastics LLC. is a family owned and operated composite, fiberglass and plastic business located in the great Matanuska Valley of Alaska.

This is where I got mine. Shipping may not be cheap but it can be rolled. The smallest they have is 0.060 and they carry Black and White. I went black with the idea of painting it. I purchased 4 sheets of 4x8 and I am able to do the full interior. I am not doing the ceiling. $135.67/Sheet for 4 or more.

        They are located in Ohio.

Have you tried painting it yet? If so, how are the results?

I have not officially painted any. I was in the shop this afternoon and it was a warm day so I grabbed some scrap and some rattle cans and went to town. The white can didnt look great. Maybe needed second coat. The "Good" side of Kydex is textured. Might be the paint. But I used some rust-oleum self etching primer and put a coat of that down and then dried it with the heat gun for bending kydex. I painted some black and then realized the Kydex was blackish. I did another test piece with green and it looked really good. Long story short I would use a primer for the Kydex and it covered nicely. Tomorrow It will have dried for 24hrs and I will bend it and abuse it a little to see how well it holds up.
