  • Glare shield lip injury protection

My glare shield has a 2" overhang. I am mounting an LED strip on the underside. I am still pondering how to add head protection to the lip. I bought some thick 5/8" hose and slit that and trial fit. Don't care for the look. Recently Brooks had mentioned using aluminum tubing for protecting legs from the edge of sub panels. I'm not sure I would like the looks of that either. I could really use some other ideas.

6E3BD402-2BBA-4D02-81C9-8667F0515DD4.jpg Get some quality 3/8” ID rubber hose and put a slice in it as you did. No plastic cause glue won’t stick to it. Get a quality naugahyde of your choice and cut a piece you can glue to the hose inserting and working it around to the other side and into the slit. Do your due diligence cleaning and prepping the hose and hyde once you have a rough pattern. Can trim before inserting it into the hose. Start on one side and work towards the other. It’s probably up there on the top 10 list of difficult things to accomplish on your build. Fourth one I did is on the plane. Some people stitch them on like the old steering wheel covers. Mine is just pushed on. Doesn’t come off like you might think. I don’t put anything on the dash. You might want to cut the lip back to were you only need the space to push on the hose.
Or buy the door moulding some have used. There was a discussion about this not too long ago somewhere on the site.

I used a rubber extrusion purchased from a local shop here in NZ and it adheres with Velcro. This allows it to be removed easily to access the panel screws underneath. Superglue works well on rubber but in this case the adhesive backing on the Velcro has stuck well.

I used this stuff from Amazon and I like it. I might even have some left over if you wanted to give it a try.
