  • Upholstery cost

Please let me know what you have paid for upholstery work on your Bearhawk seats. I just dropped my Patrol seats of yesterday at a new shop (for me) here in town. The seats had fabric glued to the frames, It came with the upholstery fabric, and the temperfoam. They are charging me $300 for the front seat and $400 for the rear seat for the labor. I am curious how this compares with what others have paid. Thanks. Mark

I bought the termperfoam as well, and a pair of seat covers at Costco for 20 bucks. Since the seats are experimental as well, I am not going to pay someone to upholster them until I am happy with how comfortable the seats feel.

$300 seems like a good price. I had 2 similar sized seats upholstered about 4 years ago and I think they charged me double that.

Oregon Aero quoted me quite a lot more than that. I want to say 450 per front seat and more for the back.
      Almost flying!

I built aluminum pans on front and back of my Patrol seats. I'd had problems with seams tearing and fading, in past upholstery jobs. I brought my seats to a local 'aircraft upholstery ' shop that does a lot of helicopter seats. They do good work and use only approved materials. I wanted black/grey upholstery and insisted on real leather. I explained that I’d had problems in the past and she insisted that she’d make any problems good. I stressed that I didn’t want problems...

I said all that to set the stage for the fact that I paid a LOT MORE than you're paying, Mark. I won’t even say what mine cost. I splurged. Last week, I flew my wife to lunch, in the Patrol. On the way, she commented how comfortable the seat is.

The Blonde likes the seat: PRICELESS!

I got the seats in my 172 redone. It was $2400 Canadian. I did like the seats.

The reason I am asking what builders have paid is the thought of perhaps this couple I am dealing with might be able to do Bearhawk seats for customers when the kits ship out. Let me see how nice their work is and then maybe we can see if this might be an option. Mark

I would think you could get some good upholstery work done near where the kits are made, for a great price.

We paid $800 NZD (560 USD) for the whole shooting match, with a caveat.

I handed over bare frames to a professional and received the finished article back. No embroidery. But that was through family so I got a hefty discount.

I think full price would have been closer to $2,000 NZD (1,400 USD). This was with a high end shop that only does vehicle upholstery.

What you paid seems reasonable Mark. I paid $600 labor total for the two front seats. I provided the leather and foam. Leather was left overs from a business jet job that I picked up on ebay real cheap. The car guy did a nice but not great job. He's no longer in town so looking for someone to do the rear seats.
