  • Rudder pedal floor board close out

I am sorting out the floor boards on my Companion QB and it seems that the floor boards end right before the rudder padals, leaving a good sized gap between the floor boards and the firewall. Has anyone closed this space out (taking into account the V shaped connection of the pedal mechanism that is below grade)?

I did so with my Patrol to reduce FOD and draft potential

The floorboards of the LSA kit leave the same open space. I just cut a small piece of aluminum to fit.

FWIW, I just copied what Eric Newton did on his BH. I terminated the floorboard with a 1/2in lip to keep things from rolling forward. It's simpler that fabricating some bits forward to the firewall and has worked out fine so far.

I think this is probably the most common approach.
There's a lot of moving parts up there once it's all complete, and it would be complex to close up cleanly, especially for dual pedals with brakes. The "best" solution I can imagine would be leather boots. But that wouldn't be light, simple, or really necessary at all.
Any FOD (including above floorboards) would be bad news given how many things need room to move.
