  • Ceiling in cargo area

I am looking at making the ceiling of the cargo area with kydex. Same as the sides. My issue is attachment points. I could weld tabs to the ceiling but not crazy about that. I had the idea of using a rivnut in the hole of a Adel clamp. I did a test and it seems to work. Any other ideas ?
    Thanks.

I don’t know of this would work, but if you can 3D print, check out the tube grips that Nev designed. They are in the new forum section. You could maybe bond some to the kydex and snap them onto the tubes.

I was planning to try something like that when the time comes.

You could also design something similar that you could screw into.

Interesting thought. I didn't think of that. I been doing a lot of 3d printing and sometimes forget that's an option.

Do a test piece to see if you can bond the Kydex to a tube clamp. The adhesive used by plumbers for plastic water pipes works well on Kydex, but nothing else that I've found.

That’s good advice. There could also be a difference in bonding ability between different filament types. ABS, PETG, or ASA would probably work.

You could also design a tube clamp that would accept a threaded insert that gets heat pressed into the plastic.

If you wanted to go all out, you could make them with printed threads and bolts.

A tinerman nut also works great on an adel clamp, or a monadnock type of nut if you prefer machine threads.

Tinnerman U Type (NAS 395) Snaps over edge of panels or into center hole locations. Holds itself in place for blind assembly. Floats free for easy hole alignment.

I just left mine open because I couldn't think of a good way to attach stuff, but I suppose strips of velcro and lightweight fabric would work. I haven't missed a thing.
