  • grease zerk protrusion at flap tube bearings

I am fitting ribs onto spars and it seems to me that thegrease nipple at flap spring area will protrude beneath the finished wing skin as well as the wing root. The wing root nipple should pass through the skin for greasing but the nipple at the flap spring area would preferably be beneath the access panel. I believe I should have welded the nut at 45 degees to straight down? Any input? Thanks

You can buy 45* or 90* grease zerks, if that will help. I am just building those parts now and noticed the Patrol plans don't show grease zerks on those parts. I am thinking of just drilling a small hole and using a grease needle.

I noticed that the zerk is also not on the Patrol plans. I wonder if they install them on the parts from Mexico?

No zerk fittings on the quick build fuselage from AviPro. I haven't picked up my wing kit yet...

Here is what we used on our bearhawks NAS516-1A fitting drill a 1/8 hole and drive the fitting in with locktite .

Huntaero, how thick of material does that need? I thought about those and like the idea but was afraid they would stick though on the inside. The spot we were talking about is only one layer of .058 tubing. Where is a good source?

PS. I should have looked closer, looks like you got them from Aviall?

Skygeek shows the NAS516-1A shank length at .131", package of ten for $5.60. Very nice Huntaero!

You can use a washer to build up the thickness or weld a spacer on it. On our hor stab trim, on the lube for the trim we welded a short tube in with a 1/8 hole. Has to be 1/8 as #30 is too big. Have fun George

Those are very interesting. I am not really familiar with any other fitting other than the standard zerk. What attachment on a grease gun do you use to grease with these fittings?

                  John,
I will bet you use are around them every day and just don't notice them. Look on the back of the angle gear head on your pneumatic angle grinder or angle drill. They use a grease needle(pictured above), screws on regular grease gun or one of these.

There is the pic of the end of the needle point grease gun fitting in the pic, available at most auto stores. unscrew the nipple fitting on the grease gun and screw the needle fitting on. You push the end of the needle point into the grease fitting and pump the the grease in, the tool also works on the regular Zerk fitting, here is a listing for the tool.
