  • New Zealand Bearhawk Fly In - 25/26/27 March 2022

    Hi everyone,

We are holding the second (annual?) Bearhawk Fly In this weekend. The gathering will be starting and loosely finishing at Fernside Fields Airpark (NZFE) just outside Christchurch, New Zealand.

With 21 Bearhawk Aircraft of all types destined for New Zealand skies, in time, we are really pleased to hold community events where pilots, builders, and interested parties can see what Bearhawk has to offer.

Any 'lurkers' are welcome to contact me about coming to have a look, and meet some of the pilots / builders at a prearranged time. Please call ahead. I won't put the whole number here to stop web-bots, but you can fill in the blanks. It's the usual NZ prefix 02 then 1, and the number is 34 four 101.

    Jon

We can still make the deadline for the q1 newsletter if anyone can get a picture or two!

21 Bearhawks in New Zealand? Wow!! I wonder what the world record is for Bearhawk aircraft at one event? ....even Oshkosh or Bob's annual October Picnic.

The New Zealanders have been great customers for the kits. And there are a few scratch builders there as well. I get emails from NZ very often inquiring about the kits. NZ has a great group of pilots who love to fly in those Southern Alps like you have seen in the pics from Jonathan, Grant, and Nev. And of course nothing beats the Bearhawks for all around usefulness and back country flying ability. Mark

I was lucky enough to attend this fly-in and had an absolute blast! Huge credit to Battson for doing the heavy lifting organising and coordinating the event, and providing thorough briefings for pilots so we all got around safely. The weather could not have been better either. I personally enjoyed seeing so many different aircraft up close, and looking at some of the finer details as well as learning about the handling, performance, and support/maintenance required. All very good stuff, and it's great motivation to get cracking on the build. Here are a couple of my favourite pictures from the adventure:

Grant (Bissetg) made this very cool short movie which I've uploaded to YouTube:

Thanks for the video. Outside of Oshkosh its hard to get that many Bearhawks together and then they are scattered over the grounds, and can't go fly together.
